WHO ARE WE?

Our Story

AHEZ was formed by health professionals who had spent years working inside Zambia's civil society health sector and had seen the same gaps repeat themselves: in service access, in health literacy, and in the slow adoption of technology that could otherwise save lives. AHEZ was registered in 2025 as a response to one simple, persistent truth: in Zambia, your address and your income should not determine whether you survive a treatable illness.

Our vision is a Zambia where every individual—regardless of location, income, or background—enjoys equitable access to quality healthcare and achieves optimal health.

Our Mission

Our mission is to reduce health inequities in Zambia by strengthening community health systems, promoting literacy, supporting vulnerable groups, and expanding healthcare access through advocacy and technology.

Grassroots Level

We work directly inside communities, deploying mobile clinics, training community health workers, and running culturally grounded health education campaigns.

Systems Level

We work alongside the Ministry of Health and other national stakeholders, so these interventions feed into the broader Zambian health framework rather than compete with it.

At AHEZ we operate on a dual-track model;

WHO ARE WE?

Who We Serve

AHEZ directs its resources toward Zambians facing the greatest barriers to healthcare, with a specific focus on the following priority groups:

Rural and peri-urban communities: Home to over 60% of Zambia's population, where individuals often travel over 15 kilometers to reach the nearest health facility.
Women and children: Highly vulnerable populations, given Zambia's maternal mortality ratio of approximately 187 deaths per 100,000 live births.
Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW): A demographic disproportionately affected by the HIV epidemic, being three times more likely to contract the virus than their male peers.
Low-income households: Families living below the poverty line who face severe economic barriers to securing quality medical care
People with disabilities: Individuals who routinely experience systemic and physical exclusion within the traditional healthcare setup.
Community health workers (CHWs): The frontline workforce requiring structural support, training, and resources to effectively deliver local care.
Remote and migratory populations: Hard-to-reach groups displaced or isolated by geography, seasonal migration, or poor infrastructure.

WHO ARE WE?

Leadership & Governance

AHEZ is led by an Executive Director, who provides overall strategic direction with the support of a Strategic Technical Advisor offering specialized technical guidance. Day-to-day coordination is driven by the Executive Committee (Exco), which oversees eight functional directorates: Clinical Care, Public Health, Strategic Information Management, Finance and Compliance, Programs Development and Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance, Human Resource and Operations, Business Development, and Digital Innovation.
